The Little Cougar Academy was first implemented the Spring of 2016 with over 150 parents, family members, and incoming 2016-2017 kindergarten students. Our Academy met four times during the Spring to assist parents and families in preparing their child for entry into kindergarten.
School Readiness is defined as ". . . each child enters school ready to engage in and benefit from early learning experiences that best promote the child’s success and ability to be Ready to Grow, Ready to Learn & Ready to Succeed." Each workshop is designed to focus on one of the school readiness target domains: General Knowledge and Mathematics (March Math Madness), Health & Physical Well-Being (Heart Healthy), and Language & Communication Development (Literacy). Through our monthly workshops, families enjoy a variety of activities:
- Family-style meal
- 5 Children discovery zones (centered around the monthly theme)
- Parent workshops facilitated by school intervention staff and community partners
- Take & Make - packaged activities parents can take home to design or build with their children (all supplies are included)
Each month has over 400 different packaged activities parents can select to work on with their child at home. These activities include the materials and instructions for a variety of activities that focus on reading, writing, or mathematics.
